Tata Motors has officially launched the Harrier EV AWD in India, pricing it at Rs 28.99 lakh (ex-showroom). This new all-electric SUV not only introduces a powerful dual-motor setup but also brings several firsts for Tata’s EV lineup, including its new Quad Wheel Drive (QWD) system and an impressive certified range of 622km.
The Harrier EV AWD is based on the updated platform that recently scored a five-star rating in the Bharat NCAP (BNCAP) crash test, adding a layer of safety to its long list of features.
Powertrain
At the heart of the Harrier EV AWD is a 75kWh battery pack paired with two electric motors—one at the front and one at the rear. The front motor generates 156bhp, while the rear unit puts out 235bhp, delivering a total torque of 504Nm.
This dual-motor setup not only powers all four wheels but also unlocks features like Boost Mode and terrain-select functionality. The EV supports multiple drive modes that adjust the vehicle’s behaviour based on road conditions and driver input.
Range and Efficiency
In terms of driving range, Tata claims the QWD version offers up to 622km on a single charge under standard test conditions. Meanwhile, the C75 variant, which likely gets a smaller battery or two-wheel drive, offers a range between 460km and 490km depending on the configuration.
Fast charging capability and vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) or vehicle-to-load (V2L) features are expected, though exact charging times and support specs will be clarified closer to deliveries.
Terrain and Driving Modes
This AWD variant is not just built for tarmac. Tata has added six terrain modes that make it versatile across different landscapes:
Terrain Mode | Usage |
---|---|
Normal | City and everyday driving |
Snow/Grass | Slippery and low-traction surfaces |
Mud-Ruts | Loose and uneven terrain |
Sand | For driving on soft, sandy surfaces |
Rock Crawl | Extreme off-road situations |
Custom | Driver-tuned settings for mixed conditions |
Paired with off-road assist and torque vectoring, these features help the Harrier EV take on rugged routes as easily as urban ones.
